MangaroonThe
company’s wholly owned Mangaroon Project is located in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia,
approximately 360 kilometres northeast from Carnarvon.
This
project is an important Greenfields exploration play, offering additional
targets for tungsten mineralisation, and is located adjacent to a significant
historical gold production centre.
Tungsten Exploration
Previous
Exploration at the Mangaroon Project can be best described as reconnaissance
level work, which provided a number of anomalies worthy of follow up. No
drilling has been completed on the project.
During
the period 1980 to 1982, Carpentaria Exploration Company conducted regional
geochemical sampling and mapping over the project area. Stream sediment heavy
mineral concentrate sampling and rock chip sampling identified several
scheelite (tungsten) grain count anomalies. Veined metamorphic rocks returned
maximum rock chip values of up to 1.0 per cent WO3.
The
source of the scheelite was traced to veined rocks of the Ashburton Formation.
The Ashburton Formation is host to a number of scheelite and wolframite
tungsten occurrences at other localities within the Gascoyne Region.
Several
of the scheelite anomalies were recommended for follow up, which was never
completed. Hazelwood intends to complete high resolution geophysical surveys
and follow-up geochemical sampling for tungsten mineralisation. |
